About the Percentage Calculator

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between 'percent of' and 'percent change'?
'Percent of' answers 'what is X% of Y?' (a slice of a known total). 'Percent change' answers 'how much did Y go up or down to reach Z?' (the relative size of a difference). Different formulas for different questions.
Why are big percent decreases capped at 100%?
A value can drop at most to zero, which is a 100% decrease. There's no way to lose more than everything. Increases, however, can go above 100% — doubling is +100%, tripling is +200%.
